The course covers the basic concepts and methodologies needed to develop operating and support cost estimates. Emphasis is on the cost estimating techniques that are more commonly used in an O&S estimate; especially those that are not as widely used outside of an O&S estimate. Students will focus on understanding the elements of the O&S Cost Estimating Structure. The course culminates with students creating and justifying a small O&S estimate.

  • Registration for this course is RESTRICTED to DoD personnel only.
  • This course is heavy in the use of quantitative analysis methods. Competence in algebra and Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Completion of BCF 130 and 131 is strongly recommended as well as ACQ 101.
  • Participants must provide and be familiar with a scientific calculator.

  • Students are required to participate in video/telephone conferences that will be scheduled to be approximately 2-hours in duration per session. Video/Telephone conference hours will be scheduled for 2-hour periods between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. All times are in the local time zone of the DAU region assigned to teach the offering.
  • The telephone conference will be conducted using DAU audio bridges in conjunction with Defense Collaboration Services (DCS), the Department of Defense's open source collaborations service.
  • DAU audio bridges use commercial phone lines with no toll-free or DSN capabilities; DAU does not reimburse student phone or internet charges.
  • Students should not schedule themselves for any other work-related activity while participating in the video/telephone 2-hour class session.
  • Pre-work and reading assignments will be required to be completed prior to each video/telephone conference session.
  • Official registration closes on the Thursday prior to the class start date.
